چکیده

An algorithm is proposed to study two-dimensional vortices in thin, polytropic accretion disks. It is based on a method which has been used to study vortices in planetary atmospheres. It is special in that it conserves both energy and potential enstrophy in the absence of dissipation. This leads to desirable stability properties which permit calculations at relatively high Reynolds numbers. The algorithm is tested and compared to existing methods, in particular with a Total Variation Diminishing method.

Global axisymmetric dynamics of thin viscous accretion disks

The purpose of this paper is to explore the steady state and dynamical behavior of thin, axisymmetric, viscous accretion disks. To facilitate an analytical treatment we replace the energy equation with a general polytropic assumption. The asymptotic expansion of Kluźniak & Kita (2000, Three-dimensional structure of an alpha accretion disk [arXiv:astro-ph/0006266]), which extended the method of ...

Asymptotic models of meridional flows in thin viscous accretion disks

We present the results of numerical integrations yielding the structure of and meridional flow in axisymmetric thin viscous accretion disk models. The solutions are obtained by simplifying and approximating first the equations, using systematic asymptotic expansions in the small parameter , measuring the relative disk thickness. The vertical structure is solved including radiative transfer in t...

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars

Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...

The Effect of an Isothermal Atmosphere on the Propagation of Three-dimensional Waves in a Thermally Stratified Accretion Disk

We extend our analysis of the three-dimensional response of a vertically polytropic disk to tidal forcing at Lindblad resonances by including the effects of a disk atmosphere. The atmosphere is modeled as an isothermal layer that joins smoothly on to an underlying polytropic layer. The launched wave progressively enters the atmosphere as it propagates away from the resonance. The wave never pro...

Spectral Methods for Time-dependent Studies of Accretion Flows. Ii. Two-dimensional Hydrodynamic Disks with Self-gravity

Spectral methods are well suited for solving hydrodynamic problems in which the self-gravity of the flow needs to be considered. Because Poisson’s equation is linear, the numerical solution for the gravitational potential for each individual mode of the density can be pre-computed, thus reducing substantially the computational cost of the method. In this second paper, we describe two different ...
